Chandlers Field Primary School, Surrey

Chandlers Field Primary School is a two-form entry primary school situated in West Molesey, Surrey. The school was judged to be good in 2017.
Situated in an area of deprivation, Chandlers Field has around 50% of pupils eligible for free school meals and has high numbers of mainstream SEND and children with English as an additional language. The school runs from Nursery to Year 6 and we have a High COIN unit attached to the school. Talk for Writing is embedded throughout.

We began our Talk for Writing journey in 2017. Since we implemented Talk for Writing we have been overwhelmed by the impact it has had on all our children. When we introduced Talk for Writing the first things we noticed were how the structure gave our writers the skills to tackle any genre and how the word generation was helping to improve the language of the children.
As time progressed, Talk for Writing became more embedded and the children grew in confidence and their writing skills grew with it. Children were willing to take risks and Talk for Writing enabled them to be more creative. We are now at a stage where we continue to fine-tune Talk for Writing in our school and are always looking for ways to improve our teaching but the continual development of short burst writing, poetry and toolkits gives our children the platform to shine as writers.

As a school, we are constantly reflecting, reviewing and developing our practice in all areas of Talk for Writing and work closely with Jamie Thomas, a Talk for Writing trainer.
